I just read about this in Ego is the Enemy by Ryan Holiday. He talks about the same problem––that talking about our goals can be dangerous because it makes us think we're a step (or ten) closer even though we haven't done any work.
It's really interesting how that works. I love tracking my writing habits because it helps keep me accountable. The idea of missing a day and breaking the chain is a great motivator.
I love the idea of sharing progress because showing people what you're doing rather than what you've got planned is motivating for them, too.
