I used to do this, too. Other than making the process more difficult for yourself and the reader, it always makes you sound pretentious.

It’s obvious when someone tries to hard – whether that has to do with words, phrases, or even trying to sound deep – and all it does is turn readers off.

Be yourself. People are always afraid to do that, but that’s how you find readers who genuinely love your work.

And it’s a relief, knowing that you don’t have to be anyone but yourself. It makes the process easier and fun.
