You Can’t Just Pray to Catch the Bus
You have to pray and run to catch the bus.
I used to write on this platform every day. Back in 2021, I published about 200 articles about personal development, productivity, or whatever my 23-year-old self could puke onto a page.
in the three years that I wrote on Medium, I never had a viral article or “blew up” one day and gained hundreds of followers in 24 hours. But I steadily grew, like a snail sliding its way from one side of the sidewalk to the patch of grass on the other.
The most important part is that I was having fun. I distinctly remember waking up some morning, eager, excited, impatient to turn my thoughts into a story. I didn’t chase motivation, it was inside me like a fire that never went out.
Until, of course, it did.
I wrote my first article when I was 18, for a blog I’d launched straight out of high school. I didn’t stop after that. One day I didn’t care for writing and the next felt like discovering a pearl inside a clam. I couldn’t keep my eyes off the shine.
I spent the next five years at home, writing all day, spending my life on a computer — succumbing to what “they” told me: sacrifice everything for your passion. For the win.
